International Roadcheck 2025 Starts May 13th
Another year, another International Roadcheck event from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). As with years prior, commercial vehicles may be subject to a 37-point inspection when traveling in Canada, Mexico, or the United States from May 13th to the 15th.
Details
Every year, the CVSA gives special credence to a specific category, giving it even more attention beyond the 37-point inspection. For this year, it is tires, so if you are going out on the road during the 72-hour inspection blitz, it is imperative that you make sure your tread and inflation is up to par on all 18 wheels.
Other things that are under scrutiny during the inspection are:
- Brake systems
- Cargo securement
- Driveline/driveshaft components
- Fuel and exhaust systems
- Frames
- Lighting devices
- Steering mechanisms
- Suspensions
- Wheels, rims, and hubs
- Windshield wipers
Passing an inspection with flying colors will net your vehicle a cool decal that not only shows other people on the road that you are in tip-top shape, but will stop your vehicle from being pulled over again during the 72-hour event. Catastrophic levels of safety failure can result in an out-of-service order, which would have to be remedied before the vehicle/driver can go back on the road.
Conclusion
As with prior years, an easy way to avoid getting an out-of-service violation would be to hypothetically stay home for the time the International Roadcheck is happening, but that is lost money to keep a commercial vehicle parked in the garage. Our advice to you is to do an initial inspection of all of the points above, and keep your hours-of-service records accurate and clean, and you should be mostly fine.
The prior year’s International Roadcheck had a failure rate of 19.16%, with 35.67% of vehicles getting the decal of being exemplary. It will be interesting to see how 2025 compares to those numbers, and if it would suggest an increase in vehicular safety on the road.
With the International Roadcheck following a pattern of happening every year in May, it is likely that we will receive the results in October.
