Adrienne Camire to Lead FMCSA
On March 7th President Trump appointed Adrienne Camire to be the Deputy Administrator and the Acting Administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
Details
“I am pleased to welcome Adrienne Camire as Acting Administrator of FMCSA,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy in a statement regarding Camire’s appointment. “Ms. Camire is a dedicated leader who brings executive experience, vision, and a strong commitment to safety. I have no doubt FMCSA will continue to make our roads safer and keep America moving under her leadership.”
When it comes to appointed bureaucrats, there are two options: either the administration in question will hire someone with experience to keep things going, or an outsider to shake things up. Adrienne Camire is somewhere in the middle of the two: while she has not worked with the FMCSA before, she was the Chief Counsel for a sister agency, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) during the first Trump presidency. Now, she will be shifting gears from focusing on all motor vehicles traveling on the nation’s highways to commercial vehicles such as trucks and concrete mixers.
“Thank you to President Trump and Secretary Duffy for their confidence in me to serve in this role,” Camire said in accepting the position. “I am honored to lead FMCSA in its mission to prevent commercial motor vehicle crashes, fatalities and injuries on our Nation’s roads. I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to advance our shared safety goals.”
Conclusion
To become the official Administrator rather than an Acting Administrator, Camire will have to go through the typical Senate procedures. It is more of a formality, however, as trucks continue to travel on the road regardless of how quickly or slowly the Senate deliberates, and as such somebody needs to be the Acting Administrator until everything is sorted out. Whether or not the United States Senate will make her official is yet to be seen, the final year of the Biden Administration had only Acting Administrators after Robin Hutcheson left, but a simple vote along party lines will make it so. We at TopMark Funding wish Camire the best in her new role!
