ATA Names Mark Colson as New President and CEO
After Chris Spears’ departure from the American Trucking Associations (ATA), an association comprising of each state’s own trucking association, there has been a lull where nobody has taken the mantle of president and CEO. That time has changed, and the new person we will be hearing from as of December 1st will Mark Colson.
Details
This is a sort of promotion for Mark Colson, as he was the president and CEO of one of the fifty member-states of the ATA, Alabama.
“This is a unique moment for ATA to make a renewed commitment to the trucking industry and the professionals who call our industry home,” Colson stated in an ATA press release. “It’s a commitment built first on earned trust, a sense of family and purpose, and an unrelenting passion to fight for the issues that matter most to trucking. The values that trucking leaders and professionals hold dear were instilled in me at an early age in my family’s second-generation tire shop, Blow-Out Tire Company, where I grew up changing truck tires,” Colson continued. “They have followed me throughout my career fighting for the hard-working men and women throughout our industry, and it is a privilege to continue that fight alongside the team and members of ATA.”
He also was the chairman of the Trucking Association Executive Council, which in 2025 under his leadership released a Trucking Resurgence plan, listing things to be done to make the nation’s roads safer for all.
Conclusion
The ATA is a major driving force in influencing federal policy for the trucking industry, and we at TopMark Funding have often cited Chris Spears’ opinions on events happening in the trucking industry as they occurred. It will be interesting to see what insight Colson brings to the table.
“The values that trucking leaders and professionals hold dear were instilled in me at an early age in my family’s second-generation tire shop, Blow-Out Tire Company, where I grew up changing truck tires,” Colson said in the press release “They have followed me throughout my career fighting for the hard-working men and women throughout our industry, and it is a privilege to continue that fight alongside the team and members of ATA.”
From helping his parents as a boy to leading the Alabama Trucking Association, becoming the head of the ATA is just the next step in his journey spanning numerous decades.
