Trucking Jobs Lurch Forward for June 2022

Another month, another update from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). As with previous months, the streak of job growth within the trucking industry continues, and the industry reaches a new all-time high.

June 2022 Numbers

• The initial posting for June 2022 is 1,589,500 jobs.
• The updated number for May 2022 is 1,585,200, which is a 3,900 increase from the previous estimate.
• The final number for April 2022 is 1,568,900 employees, a 900 increase from the last estimate and a 4,800 increase from the first estimate.

With the addition of approximately 4,000 jobs in June, the trucking industry continues to grow.

The most obvious and most likely solution to this streak of constantly breaking records is that the United States is continuing to undergo a post-COVID boom, not unlike what happened after World War II in the 1940s. People, tired of the two past years of social distancing and mask wearing, are demanding more things: not just consumer goods like televisions, but also housing which requires flatbeds to haul construction materials to the worksite.

With the number failing to hit 1,600,000 in June, the trucking industry will need 10,500 more employees in July in order to reach our initial prediction of breaking the milestone in July. While it is unlikely, it is still very much possible; the trucking industry saw a jump of over 14,000 traveling from March to April.

If there is anything the past two years with the coronavirus pandemic have taught us, it is that it is very difficult to keep the trucking industry down, and if it goes down, it comes back after not very long. We foresee the job numbers continuing to grow into the future as America heads back to work.
