Texas Ramps Up Border Inspections Yet Again
Texas Governor Greg Abbott strikes again, as “Operation Lone Star” picks up and results in another round of increased scrutiny for trucks entering the nation via El Paso.
Details
This is the third time in recent history that the state of Texas has ramped up border security. The main reason is the same as the last two episodes: political feuding between the left and right. When Biden’s Department of Justice threatened to sue Texas over its use of floating marine barriers, Greg Abbott announced his plans to go even further in a twitter thread.
Texas has the sovereign authority to defend our border, under the U.S. Constitution and the Texas Constitution.

We have sent the Biden Administration numerous letters detailing our authority, including the one I hand-delivered to President Biden earlier this year.
The tragic humanitarian crisis on the border was created because of Biden’s refusal to secure the border.

His open border policies encourage migrants to risk their lives crossing illegally through the Rio Grande, instead of safely and legally over a bridge.
Texas is stepping up to address this crisis.

We will continue to deploy every strategy to protect Texans and Americans — and the migrants risking their lives.
We will see you in court, Mr. President.
In contrast to the last session of severe inspections, things seem to be much more manageable for the average international trucker. Whereas May 2023 saw wait times exceeding 24 hours in dreadful heat, current wait times at the border clock in at (only) four hours. Mexico being the biggest trading partner of the United States, toppling China in the position at the start of the year, these inspection blitzes lead to much economic value lost in an attempt to make a point.
The Texas state government says that Operation Lone Star is working in curbing border crossings, including illicit drug smugglers. “Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, the multi-agency effort has led to over 394,200 illegal immigrant apprehensions and more than 31,300 criminal arrests, with more than 29,100 felony charges reported. In the fight against fentanyl, Texas law enforcement has seized over 422 million lethal doses of fentanyl during this border mission.”
Conclusion
Last time, our advice for truckers was to either enter through another state or avoid crossing to and from Mexico altogether. Because the wait times are currently but a fraction of what they once were, this time we suggest that you bear it rather than putting the unnecessary miles on your truck and pulling the fuel out of your tank. Just turn on the radio and listen to some tunes. Should wait times exceed 24 hours again, that is when we suggest you head for Arizona.
