Tesla to Ramp Up Semi Production
It has been a long time coming, but the moment may finally be here: Tesla has touted their electric-powered semi truck for about a decade at this point, and though there were some that could be seen here and there, mass production had not yet become official. As of April 29th, 2026, Tesla says that it is, and only approximately five months after its prior prediction.

Addressing the elephant in the room: Tesla has consistently overpromised and underdelivered, with each announcement slowly kicking the can down the road. With the first whispers being all the way back in 2017, it seemed every six months pushed the release date back another five, slowly inching its way towards mass production but never quite getting there.
But now that Tesla has its production facility near Reno, Nevada and has had its first mass-produced Tesla Semi roll off the production line, it is expected that many more will follow. 50,000 per year, in fact, or about 136 per day.
The timing of the release for the Tesla Semi, through all of its delays, may just have been its biggest boon. With fuel prices being near the highest they have ever been due to recent geopolitical events, the transition from diesel to electricity may be easier than ever before. Though it may be some time before we see used Tesla Semis on the market, or people are allowed to purchase them without a massive amount of paperwork, as the waitlist is presumably multiple miles long.
Conclusion
All of this begs the question: is it finally here? It seems like the Tesla Semi has been a long time coming since it was first announced to the public in 2017, but barring any catastrophes such as a factory fire, we may just start seeing these trucks appear more often in Nevada, California, and eventually all across the country.
