Tesla Semi Mass Production to Begin in 2025

It took a long time for the Tesla Semi to finally start hitting the road, but the question still remains as to when more of them will arrive. Tesla finally answered that question in the vaguest terms possible: sometime before December 31st, 2025.

“Our first vehicles are planned for late 2025 with external customers starting in 2026,” Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy said after Tesla’s first quarterly report this year.
“So we’re finalizing the engineering of the Semi to enable…a super cost-effective high-volume production with our learnings from our fleet and our pilot fleet and Pepsi fleet, which we are expanding this year marginally. In parallel, as we showed in the shareholders’ deck, we have started construction on the factory in Reno.”
The road to finally having the Tesla Semi on the road for commercial use has been an arduous one (it was first announced in 2017 with a 2020 release), but the journey for the company has just begun. The backlog includes more orders from PepsiCo, as well as other large private carriers such as Walmart and Anheuser-Busch.
Conclusion
As it stands now, the Tesla Semi operates at approximately 400 miles on a single charge before needing to wind down for the day, making it optimal for the final stretch of deliveries, as it is being used by PepsiCo in Sacramento right now. However, the public is still in the dark regarding longer distance travel, where the Tesla Semi goes across the entire country. 400 miles is close to the maximum amount a driver can do in a single day due to hours-of-service regulations, but diesel still can go just a bit further if the traffic conditions are excellent. We will have to see if Tesla makes any modifications to the Semi before mass producing it after this initial launch with short-haul trucking has been a success.
