Will the Tesla Semi Become Reality?
Elon Musk has been in the news a lot lately, most notably for purchasing Twitter for $44 billion. While the media press is focusing on the sensationalism of his latest exploits, a far more important story is flying under the radar: the release of the Tesla Semi is currently set to be a month from now, the closest it has ever been.

The Tesla Semi, touted to be significantly more energy efficient than what competitor truck manufacturers label their future trucks to be, has had a sordid history. It was first announced in 2017 and slated for a 2019 release, but numerous delays have pushed the release further and further, to the point where it seemed as little more than a pipe dream. Needless to say, the industry was skeptical when Tesla pulled the release date forward by a few months recently.
The Environmental Protection Agency has given Tesla the green light to sell the Semi by giving the corporation a Certificate of Authority, which will last until the end of 2023, upon which it will need to be renewed.
Pepsico is the first customer to receive a fleet of Tesla Semis, which is scheduled to go out on December 1st, a month from the time of publishing. This is the closest to the Semi’s release date that we have ever been.
Conclusion
Assuming the best-case scenario where Tesla delivers on its December 1st promise, the question remains as to when smaller fleets will be able to get their hands on a Tesla Semi or two. Considering the timeline and backorders, we predict it will still be about six months until then, which should be more than enough time to assess how the Semi works on the road.
With the MSRP being estimated at around $150,000 for one of these new bad boys, we understand that some fleets might need financing to get a Semi into their fleet, but at this time we have no comments about opening our network of funders towards procuring Tesla Semis. We will just have to wait and see what happens next.
