Sean Duffy Speaks Before House on Transportation Budget
When it comes to government spending, there are few things that receive as much bipartisan support as infrastructure investment: things that everyone uses in the United States with little more than a second thought. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy spoke to the House of Representatives explaining his justification for why his department needed taxpayer dollars to help American citizens.

In a wide-ranging hearing in front of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Duffy pleaded his case.
“As part of President Trump’s ambitious plan to make America build again, we’ve ripped up red tape delays and are ensuring taxpayer dollars are being spent toward actual infrastructure,” Duffy told lawmakers. “What I’ve laid out is only just the beginning. Revitalizing American infrastructure is at the heart of this administration’s historic agenda. America’s ability to move goods and people freely, safely and quickly has always been a hallmark competitive advantage.”
During the hearing, he spoke about a large number of topics, ranging from trains at Penn Station to aviation at the Duluth International Airport. If you would like to watch the hearing, you can do so at the below YouTube link.
Across all industries, including trucking, the biggest point of contention was the term “project deliverables.” Simply put, both sides of the political aisle were tired of things not getting done.
Beyond budgeting, the hearing also covered numerous trucking regulations. At 2:04:05, Representative Mike Collins of Georgia asked about truck parking, nuclear verdicts, sleeper berth regulations, and more. Duffy responded specifically to that last one by teasing a “pilot program,” perhaps a continuation of the one from 2018.
Conclusion
With Sean Duffy leading many areas of infrastructure, including recently potential future space travel as he became the interim head of NASA, he certainly has a lot on his plate. With the various sections of transportation so closely interconnected, even indirect changes to things such as railyards and cargo airports can have a reverberating effect on the trucking industry. We wish Sean Duffy the best in his endeavours.
