It seems today in the United States you cannot drive a single mile in any given direction without coming across a pothole major enough to justify avoiding. Infrastructure repair is the one topic that both sides of the political aisle can agree upon, so why is little being done about it? That is where a private startup from the United Kingdom comes in, and is working on developing its own automatic vehicle to fill major and minor potholes, as well as tiny cracks in the road before they become bigger.

According to Robotiz3d’s own market research, poor road conditions cost Americans $26 billion per year in vehicular repairs. Considering the heavier weight of commercial vehicles, it is likely that big rigs are carrying most of that burden when one comes into contact with a pothole.
That is where the Arres Prevent robot comes in. It uses a combination of self-driving technology and sensors to find missing spaces in the road and to provide road repair faster than a crew of road workers can, blocking off a lane for about 15 minutes before it is open once again for immediate use.

So far, the project is in its infancy and is only currently being applied in Hertfordshire, England. Should it take off, it is only a matter of time before the company starts courting local and state governments in the United States with their decaying infrastructure problems.
The process will likely take some time to develop properly however, as the Arres Prevent will be hindered by the limitations of self-driving technology. However, the company is planning to have the machines operated via remote control in the interim.
Should robots and technology become a cheap, fast, and effective solution to this ever-growing bipartisan problem within the United States, the future for the trucking industry will be smooth sailing.
