Sean Duffy to Lead Department of Transportation in 2025
With a change in the office of the presidency in 2025, there are going to be some changes at the head of the executive branch. One that we were watching with bated breath was as to who was to replace Pete Buttigieg as the head of the Department of Transportation (DOT). We finally have our answer, and his name is Sean Duffy!
Background
Before this development, Sean Duffy was known for two things: television and law.
In the former, he appeared on multiple reality television shows on MTV, and has become a commentator for both ESPN and Fox News.
His career in the world of law runs simultaneously to his television one. He has a law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law, and was a district attorney in Ashland County in Wisconsin. He then went on to become a Representative in the federal government from 2010 to 2019, which he left to have extra time to take care of his newborn daughter with a heart defect. He often applies his experience in law and Congress to his show on Fox Business called The Bottom Line.
Changes to the DOT
It may seem odd to hire an outsider from the world of transportation to manage the regulations (the most experience he has in the field is being on reality shows involving motor vehicles), but lest we forget, the current DOT Administrator Pete Buttigieg was also limited in his experience in the field before taking over, and he did a satisfactory job. Sometimes it takes an outside approach in order to manage an organization effectively, which is fitting given Donald Trump’s lack of political experience and running as an outsider for the better half of a decade.
Conclusion
While nobody can tell the future, it is pretty safe to assume that Duffy will run the DOT differently from Buttigieg and from Trump’s previous DOT Administrator, Elaine Chao. Likely, he will combine the outside approach of Buttigieg with the right-leaning agenda of Chao, applying the brakes on various regulations that have been pushed by the Biden Administration while also not going overboard on reversing what is already in place. This is simply conjecture,however, and we wish Duffy the best regardless of whatever path he takes.
