Sean Duffy Finalizes 76 Projects
We have written at great length about Biden-era infrastructure investments, and how things have changed (or in some cases, stayed the same) with the transition to the second Trump Administration. One such case is the lawsuit of sixteen states trying to get money from established funds. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy is working to get those infrastructure projects underway.
Details
As of 2025, there are an estimated 3,200 infrastructure projects initiated by the Biden Administration that are still incomplete. There are a litany of reasons as to why, but the ones Sean Duffy focused on in his announcement are inherently political, shaming the previous administration for focusing on other things rather than simply getting the job done.
“The last administration claimed to ‘build back better,’ but they didn’t build back anything. Instead, they inserted wasteful social justice and green mandates into grants that drove up construction costs and delayed projects,” Duffy announced. “We’ll continue to move at lightning speed to get shovels in the ground and projects up and running.”
All of this is to say that the new Department of Transportation has plans to fulfill its promises from its predecessor, but at a rate much faster and cost-effective than it did before.
“[We] inherited a record number of 3,200 unobligated grants that had been announced by the previous administration but never obligated. This unprecedented backlog of unobligated grants delayed critical investments in communities across the country.”
Conclusion
Politics aside, this is great news, as infrastructure is one of the few bipartisan investments in the nation. As the American Civil Society of Engineers have given America’s roads a D+ grade of “barely failing”, moves that get feet on the ground and shovels in the dirt are great for America’s truckers and the industry as a whole.
In total, Duffy says that he and the rest of the Republican Department of Transportation are currently 13% of the way through the backlog, approximating 416 in total projects. We have a long way to go before the Biden-era of infrastructure investment is over and the second Trump-era of infrastructure investment can begin!
