Meera Joshi Has Senate Confirmation Hearing
The confirmation hearing, taking place on September 22nd, is expected to result in a positive confirmation for Meera Joshi. Assuming she is confirmed, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will have its first official administrator since Ray Martinez two years ago. What does this mean for trucking?
More of the Same
Joshi has been the acting administrator for the last five months, not unlike Wiley Deck and Jim Mullen before her. Before being the acting administrator, she was the acting deputy administrator, though notably did not work under an administrator at that time.
It appears that this lengthy process of promotions will be coming to an end soon, as she will no longer be simply an acting administrator once confirmed.
All of this is to say that we have experienced what the FMCSA is like under Joshi’s guidance already. The hours-of-service changes enacted almost a year ago are still present, and the FMCSA is providing hours-of-service exemptions for various events across the country.
She has also been interested in increasing trucking employment.
Conclusion
Meera Joshi has not burned the FMCSA to the ground, so we approve of the job she is doing so far. Hopefully she continues in not adding burdensome regulations to the trucking industry.
