FTR Cancels September Conference Amidst Coronavirus Concerns
In what we hope is the last time an event is canceled due to COVID-19, Freight Transportation Research (FTR) has announced that it has canceled its 2021 FTR Transportation Conference in hopes of reducing transmission of coronavirus.

FTR is most notable for its monthly approximations of truck and trailer sales for each month, but they perform other operations, too! One such thing is their Transportation Conference, where they discuss everything from maintenance, to technology, to intermodal freight. The event was to take place from September 13th-17th.
With the Delta variant that is alleged to spread more easily, FTR does not want to take the chances of being labeled a “superspreader” event.
“We know the importance this event plays in our clients’ ability to make the most informed business decision; however, at this time we determined that we need to prioritize the health and safety of everyone who makes the event so impactful,” FTR CEO Eric Starks said about the issue. “We’ll certainly miss seeing everyone again this year as we look forward to our annual conference to reconnect in person with attendees who have come to feel like part of the FTR family.”
Conclusion
Things are not all doom and gloom, however, as FTR hopes to alleviate the cancellation with a series of webinars instead. The webinars will cover the topics that would have been in the Conference, and will also include guest speakers that were expected to talk at the Conference.
While the event cancellation is not surprising, it is still disappointing. Hopefully the epsilon variant of COVID-19, should it ever arrive, is less symptomatic to the point where public events can happen again.
