Freight Rates Rise, Fall, and Hold in June

Dear readers, it appears we were duped. The fine folks at the DAT updated their dry van statistics in the dead of night. The horror! Fortunately these changes are minimal, but it does mean, provided that the June statistics remain unchanged, that dry van stayed at that same freight rate throughout the month of June. Our graphs have been updated to reflect the other changes, including April and March.

The Numbers

Dry van freight had its numbers updated for the previous months. March went from $2.67 to $2.65, April went from $2.59 to $2.67, and May went from $2.68 to $2.67. In June, the average dry van rate was also $2.67 per mile.

Flatbeds rose from $3.11 to $3.15, and continue to be the most revenue-generating form of freight for the third month in a row.

In contrast, Reefer fell by a penny per mile to $3.09.

Additionally, we will begin compiling the averages for the three freight rates to show a better understanding of the industry’s position. This month we will also show the trends for both the last three years and since DAT started tracking (as to catch up to today), but going forward it will be only for the past thirty-seven months.
