FMCSA Truck Leasing Task Force to Meet
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) deals in much more than just road safety; it also partakes in managing financial safety within the greater commercial transportation sector. To that end, the FMCSA has the Truck Leasing Task Force (TLTF), which exists to monitor the terms and conditions of truck leasing agreements, and it will be meeting twice this summer, 2024.
Details
The two meeting will take place on June 13th and July 18th, both virtual from 10 AM to 4 PM Eastern time (if you want to register, the link in the opening paragraph of the article can take you to their website to do so).
The meetings will have two separate purposes. The first meeting will discuss whether or not current agreements provide incentives for safe operation of the trucks, as opposed to driving them haphazardly. The second gathering will be more of the financial and business side of things: checking in to see that the agreements are equitable for the driver and allows the fleet to expand further.
Both meetings will have public comment sections after the discussion by the TLTF.
Conclusion
The TLTF is comprised of experts from various different facets of the trucking industry:
- Tamara Brock, Brock Logistics, LLC and Lewis & Lewis Logistics, LLC (Independent Owner-Operator)
- Paul Cullen, The Cullen Law Firm, PLLC (Attorney)Â
- Troy Hawkins, TTOH Consulting & Logistics, LLC (Independent Owner-Operator)
- Jim Jefferson, Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (Consumer Protection)
- Joshua Krause, OTR Leasing, LLC (Business)
- Kaitlyn Long, International Brotherhood of Teamsters (Labor Organization)Â
- Steve Rush, Carbon Express Inc. (Carrier)
- Lesley Tse, Of counsel to Getman, Sweeney & Dunn, PLLC (Attorney)
- Steve Viscelli, Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania (Economic Sociologist)
It will be interesting to see what conclusions they come to during these meetings. We will be sure to fill you in on any important details should they arise.
