FMCSA Removes Another 12 ELDs
One thing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) does extremely well is put Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) out of commission for being no longer compliant with FMCSA regulations. While usually the FMCSA will do this in piecemeal, this time it is rolling up its sleeves and taking out a dozen in one fell swoop.
Details
The ELDs in question this time around are:
- 888 ELD from MAUMAU LLC
- ACTION ELD from ACTION ELD
- COBRA ELD from Cobra Connect LLC
- DRAGON ELD from Dragon ELD
- DSGELOGS from DSG TRACKING LLC
- GT USA ELOGS from GT ELD
- FIRST ELD from FIRST ELD LLC
- FIRST ELD V2.0 from FIRST ELD LLC
- Mondo ELD HOS from MONDOTRACKING SOLUTIONS LLC.
- MTL ELD from POWER ELD LLC
- Sam Freight ELD from Sam Freight management LLC
- USPower ELD from POWER ELD LLC
They were removed as of May 20th, 2026 because they failed to meet the requirements outlined in Title 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395, which lists in detail all of the bells and whistles that an ELD must have and perform.
Conclusion
If you or drivers in the fleet use one of these dozen ELDs, you know the terms of engagement by now: carriers have 60 days after removal to transition to a new form of ELD, and can use paper logs in substitute during those 60 days instead of relying on the revoked ELD.
To see which ELDs may be suitable replacements, you can look at the list on the relevant ELD website (though you may have to alternate between the list of revoked and registered ELDs a few times to get the page to load properly). There are over 900 still in action. Using a rough estimate of 24 ELDs being taken off the list in a year, that means each year has about a 2.6% chance that an ELD will need replacing.
There is one last final avenue: the ELD manufacturer can work with the FMCSA to get the ELD back into the compliant list before July 20th, but because the onus will fall onto the carrier then for any violations, it would be quite the gamble.
