CVSA Announces 2024 Event Dates
It is almost hard to believe that it has been a little under a year since we wrote about the 2023 event dates from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), and now 2023 is just about over (or over, if you are reading this in 2024). With no time for complacency, the CVSA has announced the dates for three different events.
International Roadcheck 2024
International Roadcheck will be happening May 14th-16th in 2024. There will be increased inspections of commercial vehicles all across North America, but primarily within the United States.
Operation Safe Driver Week
Operation Safe Driver Week is set for July 7th-13th. Drivers of all types, commercial or otherwise, are advised to be on their absolute best driving behavior during this time as enforcement against bad driving habits increases.
Brake Safety Week
Not wanting to slow down for the summer, CVSA is having its Brake Safety Week starting on August 25th and ending August 31st. It is generally a good idea to have them inspected beforehand by a proper maintenance professional so that the inspection goes off without a hitch, or an out-of-service violation.
Secret Events
The CVSA has also announced that there will be surprise events, just as there were years before, but that what they are and their planned dates are to be secret so as to make sure that drivers and their trucks are at their best all year long. Likely suspects include the hazmat carrier inspection day, and CVSA Brake Safety Day.
Conclusion
If your fleet plans to drive during these periods, it is a good idea to get them prepared for the impending events ahead of time with the proper inspections. There are stories of some fleets opting to not drive during the weekend of the International Roadcheck so as to avoid all of the red tape, and while that is a strategy that can avoid an out-of-service order, it certainly does not make the vehicle any safer to drive. We highly advise that your fleet does what it can to make sure that all of its vehicles are consistently in tip-top shape, but since that is often not economically viable, once per year is definitely a good starting point!
