CVSA Announces 2023 Event Dates
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has a handful of events every year to make sure that the trucks on our roads and the drivers who operate them are fit to drive. In this case, they are announcing the 2023 events all at the same time, not counting the “surprise” events. Here is what they entail.
International Roadcheck 2023
International Roadcheck is their largest annual event, with an average of one inspection every four seconds for seventy-two hours. It will happen May 16th to the 18th.
Every year they have a changing focus on where they pay special attention, with previous years being brakes and driver attentiveness. It is not yet stated what this year’s focus will be.
Brake Safety Week 2023
Brake Safety week will start August 20th in 2023 and continue until August 26th. Every year during the International Roadcheck, brakes make up a significant number of the demerits during inspections, so it would make sense that the CVSA would host another enforcement week to make sure they are functioning properly.
Surprise Brake Inspection Day 2023
Beyond Brake Safety Week, the CVSA announced that it will conduct a surprise day that could happen at any time during the year. No further details were disclosed, as was the point of it being a surprise.
Operation Safe Driver Week 2023
Operation Safe Driver Week focuses on the driver instead of the vehicle he or she is operating, and is set for July 9th to the 15th. Law enforcement will be extra observant in commercial vehicle behavior, so we advise to drive extra carefully this summer week.
Other Events?
The CVSA is prone to host surprise events to make sure that drivers are performing at their peak at all times, so other surprise inspections may result. For example, in 2022 the CVSA hosted the Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods Road Blitz without telling drivers it would happen.

In total, the CVSA has announced eighteen different days that a commercial vehicle such as a Class 8 truck may be pulled over for an inspection. Our advice is to mark your schedule and prepare in advance: nobody wants a citation or an out-of-service violation during a busy week of business.
