Trucker Path Deems I-90 Best Transcontinental Route for Truckers

Trucker Path is a company that uses the power of big data to make the commercial transportation industry travel more efficiently. According to them, they receive 20 million ratings and reviews on various things from truckers every month, including the quality of the various roadways upon which they travel. To that end, Trucker Path went on a mission to determine the best interstate for truck travel, and have come to the conclusion of I-90, from Seattle to Boston.

Methodology

Trucker Path determined I-90 to reign supreme by giving interstates a 100-point weighted system based upon the 2023 ratings of three factors:

• Parking availability (45%)
• Truck stop amenities (27.5%)
• Average fuel prices (27.5%)

“We selected Parking Availability and Fuel Prices because they are 2 of the most impactful factors to a driver/owner-operator’s daily life and their businesses,” a representative for Trucker Path said in a statement. “Truck Stop/POI ratings were included because it’s an excellent measure of the overall trucker experience at the places they stop when traveling each corridor.”

When it comes to this weighted average, I-90 was the highest overall at 93.5, with I-5 in second place and as the highest-rated north-south interstate at 92.97 (presumably, I-50 rated 100% on parking availability and truck stops, as the fuel prices along it are relatively high due to being on the East Coast, especially with California requiring a special blend of diesel that costs extra).

Other routes that rated above a score of 90 include:

• I-44
• I-15
• I-35
• I-70
• I-95
• I-45

Conclusion

The interesting thing about releasing this study is that now that more truck fleets are aware of the better parking availability along the I-90, more trucks will travel there and the available parking will be reduced. We await with bated breath to see what the 2024 results will be, and if I-90 and I-5 remain the kings of the road.
