Tesla Delivers its First Semis to PepsiCo
It has finally happened. A day we almost thought would never come due to delay on top of delay, but it is finally here.
At the GigaFactory party in Nevada, Elon Musk did the honors of handing the first Tesla Semi vehicle key card to the CEO of PepsiCo North America. Is this the start of a new era for trucking?

Elon Musk himself spoke on the stage of the party.
“I can’t believe it’s been five years. A lot has happened in the world but here we are. It’s real… It looks sick. You want to drive that. It looks like it came from the future. It drives like a Tesla. If you’re a truck driver, and you want the most badass rig on the road, this is it.”
These two companies need no introduction: Tesla Motors makes electric vehicles and PepsiCo makes soda (among other things such as chips). Using its first order of 100 Tesla Semis, the soda giant hopes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in regards to how much is produced in shipping its goods to various stores.
“This is fantastic, “we’re thrilled.” Steven Williams, PepsiCo North America and first person to get their hands on Tesla Semi ownership, said at the event.
PepsiCo then had a delivery of Frito-Lay chips brought to the party by way of Tesla Semi.
We promised to tell you if anything interesting and newsworthy happened at the event, but what was perhaps the most interesting and newsworthy thing of all was what did not happen. Not a single word was said about the Tesla Autopilot system and how it may apply to its heavy-duty trucks.
Conclusion
PepsiCo has said that they plan to use their first 100 Tesla Semis in central California, around their Frito-Lay plant in Modesto and their beverages facility in Sacramento. As that is close to the location of Topmark Funding, we hope to see these bad boys in action on the freeways ourselves.
Currently the prospect of providing our customers with funding for one of these bad boys is under wraps, as Tesla Motors will need to fulfill its backlog before the average fleet can get their hands on a Tesla Semi. With the rate at which they are produced, this may take a while. We will keep you posted as any developments unlock.
