Operation Safe Driver Week Best Practices
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week is soon upon us. Law enforcement officials are going to be extra wary of commercial vehicles on America’s roadways. To avoid a ticket, or worse, a license suspension, follow these rules to keep bears off your tail.
An Ounce of Prevention
The key to surviving Operation Safe Driver Week is to not give anybody a reason to pull you over. If an officer finds your turn signal light is out, he may pull you over and, saying that your driving was a little swervy as well, ask you to take a test for alcohol.
Before the week started, you will have wanted to make sure the exterior of your truck was in prime condition. Turn signals, headlights, and mud flaps all working in proper order. If you have not yet done so, now is a better time to find out about these inconsistencies than to be pulled over and informed of them by an officer.
The next most important thing to do while on the road during Operation Safe Driver Week is to use common sense. Go slightly below the speed limit, not slightly above. Wear a seatbelt. Have your phone turned off, or at the very least do not use it while driving.
All of these may seem overly pounded into your head, but these safety practices do save lives. The National Highway Traffic Association says that in 2018, over 10,000 people died due to vehicles speeding. That is over 27 people per day.
Conclusion
Hearing these pieces of advice are annoying but necessary to avoid getting in trouble, and ultimately to save lives. Some things never change. The sky is blue, water is wet, and wearing a seatbelt increases your chances of surviving a collision. Use common sense when out on the road, and Operation Safe Driver Week can pass without you noticing it ever happened at all.
