The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) is changing gears, pun intended. They are changing the name of their annual convention from the Truck Product Conference to the Commercial Vehicle Upfitting Summit, and it will be taking place September 13-14th, 2022 in Sandusky, Ohio.
In a time where global supply shortages are requiring fleets to get every mile out of their current equipment, the NTEA is more relevant than ever. By changing the name of the event, the NTEA is hoping to put more emphasis on upgrading current equipment rather than chasing the latest and greatest at a time when that is borderline impossible.
“The Commercial Vehicle Upfitting Summit name more strongly aligns with the program’s intent and overall scope focusing on upfitter and equipment manufacturer technical needs,” said Kevin Koester, managing director of the NTEA. “We’re excited to share the new name of this annual commercial vehicle event, and we’re even more excited to provide an opportunity for upfitters and chassis engineers to reconnect in person on the latest technical updates and applications.”
According to the NTEA’s webpage about the Summit, the event serves four purposes to truck industry professionals:
- Preview commercial vehicle updates
- Engage with OEM engineers on critical upfitting issues
- Learn about changes to powertrains, electrical systems, chassis structures and other vehicle systems
- Speak directly with chassis OEM technical representatives and product specialists
Unfortunately, but perhaps not unexpectedly, the previous Truck Product Conference was canceled due to the supply chain issues. In a statement last year, the NTEA said:
“As much as we’d prefer to connect in person, the impact of continuous supply chain delays and disruptions, labor shortages, and various other factors in your local regions, are placing additional demands on your companies, and NTEA wants to support and not disrupt your essential business operations.”
Cancellation of the 2021 was not due to coronavirus concerns, especially considering the virtual conference that took place in 2020.
Hopefully history does not repeat itself and the first event since the name change can go underway without a hitch. Registration for the NTEA Commercial Vehicle Upfitting Summit begins in June.
