Connecticut Ignores California’s Advanced Clean Truck Regulation
The timing is impeccable how around the same time that we published an article regarding states that are following in California’s footsteps in promoting green energy commercial vehicles by standing against fossil fuel vehicles such as diesel that Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont withdrew proposed regulations that would have banned fossil fuel vehicles in the Constitution State by 2035.
Details
Connecticut does not have an alternative governing board like the California Air Resources Board, so the requirement to ban diesel vehicles would have had to go through the standard legislative process: approval in both chambers at the state level before coming across the governor’s desk for a signature. While Governor Lamont was in support of the ban of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles in 2035, he found little support from the legislature, and has decided to drop the matter for the time being.
The decision was met with support from American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear.
“The tide is turning as state officials across the country wake up to the reality that California’s electric-truck mandates are bad policy that carry serious political consequences. Technically unachievable standards and unrealistic timelines that set the trucking industry and consumers up for failure are not how we achieve our shared goal of further reducing emissions.”
Conclusion
It appears a storm is brewing across the United States of America, as states pick sides when it comes to allowing further sale of fossil fuel vehicles or banning them altogether. The way things are currently going, it is hard to say for sure which side is ultimately going to win, but it seems those in favor of renewable energy vehicles have a lead as approximately eleven states have enacted regulations that will, at the very least, reduce the number of fossil fuel commercial vehicles on the road in proportion to their counterparts, as right now electric Class 8 Trucks comprise well below ten percent of the nation’s fleet.
We at TopMark Funding hope to work with our funding sources to help fleets make the transition to alternative fuel source vehicles one day, but currently that is not in the cards.
