CARB to Form TRAC
California is a very beautiful state geographically, but when it comes to governmental regulation, its intense burdens can leave something to be desired for the average fleet traveling within state borders. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has announced that it is planning to form what it calls the Truck Regulation Advisory Committee (TRAC), which it hopes will help CARB realize the goals it has set for environmental regulations regarding heavy-duty trucks.
Details
CARB has been in the news a lot lately, whether it is regarding the banning of the sale of diesel trucks, banning the usage of diesel trucks, or agreements with diesel truck manufacturers. Now, CARB is planning to become a little bigger with the implementation of TRAC.
“We are looking to the TRAC to help fine-tune our outreach, training and implementation strategies and materials, as well as increase awareness of the needs and opinions of affected stakeholders,” CARB said, in a statement about TRAC’s beginnings. “The purpose of the TRAC is to identify best practices for implementing the regulation consistent with the regulation language and facilitating constructive dialogue to address key rule implementation issues.”
There will be a meeting open to the public regarding the formation of TRAC, which will be in Sacramento at the California EPA ‘s headquarters downtown. People who cannot make the meeting in person are welcome to register virtually via Zoom and watch it online.
Conclusion
With this event happening in TopMark Funding’s backyard, we are very interested in seeing what happens during this meeting as California continues to push the boundaries of environmental regulations that put a damper on the trucking industry. If anything interesting happens during the event, such as entirely new announcements from CARB, we can assure you that we let you know.
CARB certainly is working overtime: its current plans for removing diesel engines from California’s roads seem to be a bit of a pipe dream, as fewer than 10% of all trucks on its roads are zero-emission. Only time will tell if it meets any of its ambitious deadlines, and to what extent those regulations will affect the trucking industry as a whole.
