ATA Urges States to Apply for More Federal Grants

The American Trucking Associations Law Enforcement Advisory Board, which consists of 37 retired and active law enforcement professionals with over 900 combined years of experience, sent letters to the governor’s office and the state department of transportation of all 50 states.
The letters urged the states to apply for additional federal funding to increase truck parking capacity.
“Law enforcement organizations across the country, from local police departments to statewide patrols, are impacted by this issue and have seen firsthand how the truck parking shortage jeopardizes road safety for all motorists,” said Fred Fakkema, LEAB chairman and Vice President of Safety and Compliance for Zonar Systems.
“The U.S. Department of Transportation is offering federal funds to help expand truck parking capacity, and we encourage states to capitalize on these resources now while they are available.”
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sent ATA President Chris Spear a letter pledging the Administration’s dedication to the issue. They provided the ATA with a list of various grant programs under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that can fund truck parking projects.
They also provided guidance on eligibility requirements needed for funding. After combing through the 10-page document, the requirements seem fairly strict in order to receive funding.
