Operation Safe Driver Week 2026 Starts July 12th
International Roadcheck 2026 will be underway by the time this article is published to the world, but the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is not resting on its laurels. It is already planning for Operation Safe Driver Week, starting two months to the day that International Roadcheck will have happened.
Details
From the CVSA website, the goals of Operation Safe Driver are:
- Targets unsafe driving behaviors by passenger vehicle drivers and commercial drivers
- Educates youth about safely sharing the roads with large trucks and buses
- Offers commercial driver educational and awareness programs to the motor carrier population
- Increases awareness to the general motoring public about safe operations around commercial motor vehicles
- Aims to improve commercial motor driver regulatory compliance
- Conducts passenger vehicle and commercial motor vehicle traffic enforcement initiatives
Operation Safe Driver Week is an extension of the program, where the CVSA ramps up its efforts.
Every year for Operation Safe Driver Week, the CVSA has a specific aspect to which it pays special attention. This year, it will be “reckless, careless, or dangerous” driving, in case a trucker’s specific driving habits may fit one but not the other.
The event will run from July 12th to 18th, wherein the CVSA plans to work with law enforcement across the USA to bring attention to bad driving habits and to inspect the occasional driver.
The last time we wrote about Operation Safe Driver Week was in 2022 when its results were published for that year. During that year, 35,000 drivers were tested and 26,164 citations were given out, averaging out to almost 0.75 per driver (though some drivers were given more than one, meaning that the true failure rate is unknown due to the skew).
Conclusion
Most people would say that they are a better driver than average, which is statistically impossible, but commercial drivers are held to a higher standard than their four-wheel counterparts. Are you doing your best to stay safe on the road? Make sure to be on your best behavior during the middle of July, as law enforcement and the CVSA take a particular interest in your driving habits during Operation Safe Driver Week.
