Vermont Has State of Emergency Regarding Flooding
It is now the dog days of summer, and you know what that means: heat and dryness for a majority of the country. Where has all of the water gone? Apparently the answer to that is Vermont, as the state is suffering from widespread flooding. Governor Phillip Scott has issued a State of Emergency regarding the excess water.
Details
Vermont already suffered intense flooding and erosion from July 11th to the 13th, and weather reports indicate more to come. As such, the Green Mountain State is issuing a Declaration to prepare for the emergency.
The entire Declaration can be read on the FMCSA’s relevant webpage, but because the emergency is a natural disaster rather than a shortage of any particular good, the Declaration is worded to be broad and to apply to as many governmental organizations as possible. This is most notable with Section 4:
“Relevant rules and permitting requirements shall be suspended to the extent necessary to respond to the conditions created or caused by this impending storm to conduct hazard mitigation, support response and recovery efforts to alleviate hardship and suffering of citizens and communities and preserve public safety and property of the State.”
This means that if you want to help deliver necessary supplies such as emergency blankets to those displaced by flooding, you will need to contact VTrans directly and make sure everything is squared away so that you may not be fined or lose your Commercial Driver’s License while helping provide emergency relief.
If you are traveling through Vermont any time soon, even if not for emergency relief, it is a good idea to check to see which roads are closed due to the flooding.
Conclusion
Currently, there is no set expiration date for this State of Emergency and its Declaration: it will be in effect for as long as summer storms are on the horizon for the Green Mountain State.
