Trailer Orders Increase Drastically in October 2022
Much like with the truck sales numbers we have been seeing in the past few months, trailer sales are going through a renaissance at the moment, as supply chain issues that have been plaguing the trucking industry for numerous months are finally starting to clear up. ACT Research and FTR have the numbers!
October 2022 Numbers
ACT Research pins the preliminary number of net trailer orders for October to be around 46,750. Assuming this number holds water, it is an 82% increase from September. ACT Research predicts that the final number is within plus or minus give percentage points, meaning the estimated sales band ranges from 44,412 to 49,088.
FTR Transportation Intelligence tells a slightly different story: 21,500. While not quite as drastic as ACT Research reports, it is still a 29% increase from their September numbers.
Much like what was happening at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for trailers has not diminished, but has only been pushed back month over month until production capacity can meet the demand.
The question that remains is just how much more pent-up demand is left to be drained from the well, assuming that October is the first month to see capacity outpace monthly increases in demand. Considering the phenomenon has been going on for a majority of 2022, there is a good chance that high sales numbers will continue.

With the holiday season just around the corner, it is likely that November will yield high numbers in terms of trailer sales. Normally this is not the case, as usually trucking companies have the assets they need to perform business during the holiday rush by now, but with production capacity finally starting to ramp up, there is a backlog to fulfill that will no doubt need servicing.
