Ode to the Veteran Trucker
Veteran’s Day has come and gone, and unfortunately for us fell on a weekend this year, so we did not publish an article to celebrate, but we hope that publishing one now is timely enough to pay our respects to these warriors-turned-road-warriors.

According to the United States Census Bureau, five percent of the nation’s workforce comprises veterans, but in trucking, that percentage is double at 10%. That means if you are a trucker reading this, there is a ten percent chance that you served in the military.
Many of the aspects that allow a member of the military to operate effectively also apply to the trucking industry. This includes the discipline, attention to detail, and sense of responsibility thrust upon members during military service. As a result, it is not a surprise that many become what is sometimes referred to as a “Vetrepreneur”, starting their own owner-operator fleet after their work in the armed forces.
The United States government also has numerous programs to help veterans transition to a career in trucking, such as the Even Exchange Program to help veterans get the CDL they need to succeed in the industry.
Conclusion
Though Veteran’s Day has come and gone, it is important that we all recognize the work that is put into the most powerful military in the world in order to keep our nation free and allow over 320 million individuals to make their own economic choices: choices that are expanded upon by the delivery of a truck driver. When a veteran transitions to become a truck driver, they are serving their country in a different way, but serving it nonetheless.
