Nikola Starts Production of Hydrogen Vehicles
Three years ago Nikola Motors started breaking ground on a factory for hydrogen fuel cell electric commercial vehicles (we wrote about it briefly when it was first announced). Now that the factory is complete, they are ready to get to work.

The news was brought to light on September 28th 2023, at the finished manufacturing facility, with 900 industry stakeholders attending the launch.
“This is a company that always said we’d have a hydrogen fuel cell truck on sale in 2023, and we do today,” Nikola CEO Steve Girsky said at the event.
Nikola says that it will start delivering trucks to those who reserved them long ago before it starts opening the floodgates for anyone to purchase them. It currently produces one hydrogen truck each day, but estimates for the maximum capacity of the factory are 2,400 hydrogen heavy-duty vehicles per year, a little more than six per day.
Each truck is purported to go 500 miles on a 70 kilogram tank of hydrogen, which is expected to take about fifteen minutes to refuel: similar to that of diesel, and much faster than conventional electric batteries which takes thirty minutes at least and many hours at most. Additionally, a fully-loaded truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 28 seconds.
Conclusion
In addition, Nikola is establishing hydrogen refueling stations across the continent under its Hyla brand, and will work with existing truck stops to get their own refueling stations for hydrogen-powered trucks. For its own hydrogen refueling stations, Hyla plans to start near ports in California and slowly expand eastward until it covers the nation completely, similar to diesel and gasoline fueling stations today.
