More States Join the Hurricane Ida Club
Hurricane Ida may be long over by now, but the economic fallout from the destruction caused by one of the most intense hurricanes to hit the east coast in recorded history has just begun. Three more states have declared temporary regulatory suspensions in an attempt to accelerate recovery.
Hurricane Ida Details
This is part three of a series. You can read about the other states on the relevant webpage.
Connecticut
A very run of the mill declaration. When hauling petroleum fuels such as gasoline and propane, drivers are exempt from the hours-of-service regulations until they complete the delivery or declare themselves too tired to not take a ten hour off-duty break. More information is on the webpage.
New Jersey
The State Director of Emergency Management and the Attorney General temporarily have the power to determine the flow of traffic. The governor also grants the executive heads of agencies to waive enforcement of rules that would impede recovery, at their own discretion. Whether or not this includes the popular hours-of-service exemption is most likely up to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The declaration can be read on its designated webpage.
New York
The New York declaration gives the state funds necessary to purchase relevant food, supplies, services, and equipment. No doubt this would include the trucking not just for the goods mentioned, but also the service of trucking itself. This includes “commodities…technology and materials.” You can read more on the webpage.
Conclusion
With these three added, the total number of states with a state of emergency related to Hurricane Ida totals ten. With the storm’s passing, any other states that would elect to join in would do so purely on the resulting economic damages, similar to the three states above.
On the plus side, hurricane season is almost over.
