Florida to Provide Funding to Trucking Schools
America can always use more unsung heroes of the road. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis agrees with the sentiment, and on September 15th the governor granted $8.2 million dollars to five community colleges to boost their vocational trucking programs.

Florida is hoping that the one-time payment of $8.2 million will increase the number of truckers these five schools train from less than a thousand to 3,500 every year moving forward.
“In Florida, over the past three years we have made significant investments into workforce education, with an emphasis on trucking and the entire transportation industry,” said Governor Ron DeSantis in a statement. “With today’s announcements, we have now increased our CDL training capacity at state institutions from less than 1,000 prior to 2019 to more than 3,500. These investments are driving the growth of our rural communities and state as a whole.”
Additionally, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity is granting $1 million to the State College of Florida through its Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant program to beef up its CDL training, as well as $500,000 through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to various colleges.
In total, the state is paying $9.7 million. Assuming every trucker generated from this school provides Florida with $250 in tax revenue it otherwise would have not obtained per year, it will take the state just a little over five years to recoup costs.
