California Expands Emergency to 21 Counties
TopMark Funding is located in Roseville, California. We are a few miles northeast of Sacramento, and most consider Roseville to be part of the “Greater Sacramento Area”, despite being in Placer County. The winter storms that had been declared in thirteen counties earlier have expanded into twenty-one more, and as such Governor Gavin Newsom is expanding the State of Emergency to compensate.
Details
The expansion of the Declaration was announced March 8th. In it, Governor Newsom says that all of the stipulations mentioned in the previous Declaration now apply to another twenty-one counties, as well as the opening of various fairgrounds to provide shelter to those most impacted by the downpour.
Here is the new list of applicable counties, with new ones in bold.
- Amador
- Butte
- El Dorado
- Fresno

With the total population of all counties impacted exceeding 20 million, more than half of all California residents are at risk of being adversely affected by the flood.
It is fun for us to joke that California is the only place that can have both a drought and a flood at the same time, but the drought further exacerbates the flood. When the ground is dry and hard, it is less receptive to absorbing water, and it takes significantly more time to soak into the ground if it does not wash elsewhere first.
Conclusion
Truckers benefit from this turn of events by an increase in demand for delivery services regarding relief supplies such as food, clean water, and blankets. If your business operates in California, this may be the opportune time to go through the appropriate channels and get your foot in the door with the largest state economy in the nation.
There is one silver lining to the constant downpour we are experiencing in Roseville: the flood is starting to win the battle. This time last year California had 87% of its landmass under severe drought, a month ago it was 32.6%, and now it is under 20% and continuing to drop.
As of the time of writing there is no set expiration date for the State of Emergency.
