ATRI Releases Top Driver Concerns 2022
It is late October, which means the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has posted its results from its annual survey of driver issues. The results may surprise you.
Methodology
The methodology is the same as it was when we covered the results in 2020. 4,200 people were given a list of 28 different points of contention, and were asked to give their top three, with first place getting three points, second getting two, and third getting one point, with the other 25 options all getting a goose egg. In total, there were 25,200 points to distribute.
Their industry concern index (ICI) is a quick and easy way to measure the level of concern when compared to the highest concern, which has an index score of 100. Simply put, respondents are only 39.3% as concerned about speed limiters as they are fuel prices. Here is the list.

Interestingly enough, driver shortage got the most number 1 votes out of any category, but fuel prices had more than enough second and third-place votes to push it ahead of its competition.

Conclusion
It goes without saying that driver and motor carrier perspectives have changed over the past year, with inflation, supply chain shortages, and global political woes each throwing a separate wrench into the United States economy.
The ATRI mentions that this is the first time in half a decade that driver shortage has been dethroned as the number one pick. Hopefully these higher fuel prices do not last for much longer.
