CVSA Releases International Roadcheck 2025 Results
It is the Fall season, and you know what that means: the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has released its data on the latest International Roadcheck. Did drivers across North America keep their trucks in better shape this year than they did in 2024?
Details
If you are interested in the full details, you can check it out on the relevant CVSA webpage. Here are some key statistics to keep in mind if you want the abridged version:
- 56,178 inspections were conducted in the 72-hour period. This is a fifteen percent increase over 2024, which saw 48,761 inspections. This in an increase from 11 per minute to 13 per minute.
- The vehicle failure rate was 18.4%, a solid improvement from the 19.16% of 2024.
- 16,521 CVSA decals were given out, compared to 2024’s 17,395. The fact it was fewer despite a larger number of trucks being inspected suggests that although more trucks are passing, fewer trucks are getting “exemplary” scores.
- Brakes and tires were the most common vehicle violations, which tracks to what happened in 2024.
- Driver violation failures were at a rate of 5.9%, while in 2024 there was a 4.8% rate.
Conclusion
So what details can be derived from this data? On average, trucks are remaining about the same in terms of maintenance quality, but the deviation is narrowing: fewer trucks are unacceptable and fewer trucks are spotless. This ultimately suggests a boon for trucking safety, as smaller issues that prevent getting a CVSA decal but do not take a truck off the road are more manageable than faulty brakes.
When International Roadcheck 2026 comes around, we will be sure to report the details on that as well, and compare it to 2025 to see if the nation’s commercial roadways are becoming safer. You can do your part by keeping your vehicle and mental acuity in tip-top shape. Never drive distracted, and always wear a seatbelt. Interestingly enough, the CVSA gave out 726 violations for lack of wearing a seatbelt, which ranks relatively low on the list in terms of raw numbers but is a relatively easy issue to fix.
