Biden-Harris Administration Announces CDL Training Grants
The Biden-Harris Administration announced on September 20th plans to give $140 million in funding that will be given to states and training programs through the agency’s High Priority (HP) and Commercial Driver’s License Program Implementation (CDLPI) grants.

The grants are split with $88 million going to HP, and $55 million going to CDLPI.
HP is not directly related to training new drivers, but instead is used to promote technological advancements in safety, which in the current age would likely use the implementation of AI to determine “high-risk” zones.
The other $55 million is to promote CDL training programs across the United States, lowering the wait times new drivers will experience before going on the road. This money also is earmarked to improve interstate electronic communication exchanges and to combat human trafficking.
“At FMCSA, we are serious about our mission of reducing crashes and fatalities on the nation’s roadways that involve large trucks and buses,” said FMCSA Deputy Administrator Vinn White during the announcement. “Together, these grants represent our commitment to investing in America and our dedication to supporting strong state and local partnerships that help ensure safe and qualified CMV drivers are on the roads.”
