National Defense Authorization Act Would Give Truckers a Boost
Christmas is just around the corner at the time of writing this, and to that end Congress is hoping to get one last major Bill into law before taking a break. It is a $900 billion policy Bill for the Pentagon and other military spending. Having already passed the House, it now goes to the Senate. Should it pass, there is a lot of wordage in the Bill that will help commercial drivers who work with the federal government.
Details
Commercial driving companies that work with the federal government may just be in for a Christmas present this year, as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has a multitude of provisions in it that would make things better for them.
Such provisions include improvements to the procedures for helping move military freight, as well as companies who help military members and their families relocate.
Perhaps the most interesting potential change in the Bill is increased accessibility to bathrooms for truckers on military bases, harkening back to a debate that was big back in 2022.
“The NDAA includes a series of reforms to put commercial solutions first, eliminate regulatory burdens, end bureaucratic inertia and put in place a system that will deliver capability to the warfighter at speed and scale,” Representative Mike Rogers said in championing the Bill. “Fixing acquisitions will go a long way toward ensuring our warfighters are the most capable fighting force on the planet.”
Beyond trucking related upgrades included in the NDAA, provisions include a 3.8% pay rate increase for all military members and upgrading buildings for better protection against severe weather.
Conclusion
The United States stands high as the largest single purchasing entity in the world, with an estimated spending amount in 2026 coming to a resounding $7 trillion.
As it currently stands, the NDAA is expected to clear the Senate by December 15th, by the time you read this, where it will then go across President Trump’s desk for an approval signature, putting $900 billion in funding for the nation’s military in 2026, including for contracting companies in the transportation industry.
